Hyer started his IIDM career in outside sales in Houston, then moved to Baton Rouge (where his home was flooded in a rain event), and now is back in Houston as a sales leader. We spoke with Hyer about his take on five years at IIDM.

Buzz Sez: What is your role at IIDM?

Ed Hyer: Sales Manager Houston/Baton Rouge. My role is to grow and coach our sales team, technically in sales and hopefully personally.

BS: How did you first learn about Innovative-IDM?

EH: It was a suggested job posting on my LinkedIn account.

BS: How do you balance your career and family?

EH: Working for a family-oriented company makes that seamless. But you must know when to turn off work and give your family the time they deserve and need because before you know it, time has slipped away and they are grown up.

BS: How has Innovative-IDM helped you in your career development?

EH: Innovative has given me the opportunity to improve my sales and technical skills. Running a remote branch really has set me up to be successful in any opportunity going forward.

BS: If you could pick one theme for IIDM to turn into a book about the company, what would it be?

EH: Culture. This is an amazing place to work. I love the fact that we live our company values and goals and one of our company values is to have fun and our culture is all about having fun. We celebrate success. I took my team to Top Golf and baseball games to celebrate meeting our goals.

BS: What advice do you have for prospective Innovative-IDM candidates?

EH: You are going to be hard pressed to find a better place to work and grow.  Just join our team and enjoy the ride.

BS: What are 3 words to describe Innovative-IDM?

EH: Focused, Growing and FUN!

BS: What do you find the most challenging at IIDM?

EH: Keeping up with new products and my technical skills.

BS: What do you like most about IIDM?

EH: The people hands down, best I have ever worked with in my career. Everybody wants to help. Everybody in our organization wants everyone to succeed. Everyone knows my family, the ask about my family by name.

BS: What drew you to IIDM originally? And how has IIDM changed since?

EH: I was excited for a new sales challenge in a new industry. For me that has not changed, but what has changed is that I’m able to help others and I like helping.

BS: What have you gained from working at IIDM?

EH: Lifelong friends and just experiences you can’t get working anywhere else. I get to go into places where they make things. Go in to Tabasco to see how they make Tabasco. Not many people off the street get to go in and see the production of something. How they make computer parts. I get to see different things out in the field. I just left a sugar cane customer, they process 1.2 million tons of sugar cane in 90 days and each ton produces 250lbs of sugar.

BS: What is on your wish list for the next 5 years?

EH: I would love to take my wife on a nice trip to Europe and achieving Presidents Club three or four more times.

BS: What is the favorite part about working for IIDM?

EH: The people.

BS: What is your proudest moment at IIDM?

EH: I have two. I was trusted to lead the Baton Rouge Branch, and making President’s Club. To have the confidence from upper management at Innovative to run a branch, going from territory manager to branch manager in a year and ½ showed a lot about the company, you can grow within. It was my goal to hit President’s Club within my first 3 years and I hit it my 3rd year. My whole branch was able to go on President’s Club as well.
